Cannabis (Marijuana) and social phobia

marijuana social phobia

At the Manchester Hypnotherapy Clinic, quite often clients consult me asking for help with alcohol abuse or other recreational drugs. Using Pure Hypnoanalysis clients are effectively able to free themselve of the anxiety that is driving them to feel out of control with drugs.

Cannabis (Marijuana) is one of the most common recreational drugs and there is a lot of hype and misinformation regarding the effects and relative dangers of using it.

Cannabis is often depicted as giving a 'high' - but this high is usually only felt when smoking plants of the Skunk variety (marijuana plants bread for very high THC content). THC (Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol) is the psychoactive chemical in Cannabis - and the more of this chemical present - the 'higher' the effect. In most, natural varieties of Cannabis, the THC content is much lower which causes the effects of smoking the substance to be far more lethargic, relaxing, and chilled out.

What is also apparent, is that Cannabis use tend to 'send people inward' on themselves, so they become less sociable. It is possible that prolonged use of Cannabis can cause people to have socially phobic type symptoms in the sense that users would rather be stoned than to face the outside world and interact with it (inlcuding people within it). To prolonged Cannabis users, an attitude of 'not being arsed/ bothered' to do anything tends to prevail.

I have experience with helping people overcome excessive marijuana and cannabis use so if you need any help, please don't hesitate to contact me.
